Antonia's adventure

Willa Cather in her novel My Antonia (yes, a signal phrase) offers her view of life during the pioneer time.

How would My Ántonia be different if it were told from Ántonia's perspective? The book would be different because there would be more about Antonia and her adventure and might even be all about her.

How effective is Cather, a woman, at narrating a story from the point of view of a man?  pretty effective because without her we wouldn't know what was going on.
Does Jim sound like a man writing, or does the narrative sound like a woman pretending to be a man? sounds like a man.

Why do you think Jim changed the title from Antonia to My Antonia?  because she was his Antonia.

The Effects of Setting

Author Willa Cather embedded literary devices, such as metaphors, similes, and personification, within her writing.

"As I looked about me I felt that the grass was the country, as the water is the sea. The red of the grass made all the great prairie the colour of wine-stains, or of certain seaweeds when they are first washed up. And there was so much motion in it; the whole country seemed, somehow, to be running."

"The grave, with its tall red grass that was never mowed, was like a little island."

"Winter comes down savagely over a little town on the prairie. The wind that sweeps in from the open country strips away all the leafy screens that hide one yard from another in summer, and the houses seem to draw closer together. The roofs, that looked so far away across the green treetops, now stare you in the face, and they are so much uglier than when their angles were softened by vines and shrubs.

The setting had a big effect on Jim because that's where he was born and raised. The setting also had a big effect on Antonia because that's where she was born.

A setting that has a big effect on me is the football field, like when we went to Little Rock the atmosphere was so amazing. But when I'm out on the every day practice field then its not really that special. Being out there does make me feel important.

Argument: Helmet to Helmet Contact Should be Legal in the NFL

Evidence -Concrete Detail
  • Making helmet to helmet contact legal would make the game more fun for all of the players and coaches.
  • Mark Scholereth says that he loves and glorifies the big hits like that because that's what they get paid to do.
  • Hitting the other team hard with the helmet make the other team not want to play therefore it intimidates the opposing team.
Evidence -Concrete Detail
  • The contact should be legal because that the way the game was first made, the game was made to be rough.
  • All of the good features on ESPN are gone now because they cant glorify the big hits anymore.
  • The intensity has changes allot in the last 50 years said Katz.
Opposing Claims/They Say
  • Helmet to helmet contact should be legal because it causes injuries and damage permanently.
My Rebuttal/I Say
  • Yes it does but so does regular tackling. So i say that you should be able to tackle anybody anywhere.

Henry Vs. Forest

In intense situations, a persons instinctual reaction causes him/her to react for self-preservation, whether that means taking fight or flight. Usually when I'm in intense situations I take a flight because i don't fight unless I need to. Forest is just like me but faster, he chose to run away. Henry is a bit different because he wanted to go to war in the first place.

Remembering 9/11

People miss the World Trade Center very much. A lot of people lost there family and there jobs. And now they don't have any thing to remember their family by.

I didn't have any family die or even in NYC the day it happened so i was very lucky. Also I miss the World Trade Center some not as much as most people but I do miss it some. If I had a family member that died I would want something to remember them by.

The people that lost their family members in the tragedy probably have some anger toward the tarriest. But I don't blame them cause if somebody killed my family i would be very mad. Also I would try to get back at them.

Wonded Warrior Project

I think that this project is a very good thing. People that go out and die for our country need to get something in return. These people are good people all of them. Every single one of them are brave and good to our country. We probably need to do more for these people but it is good that we do this.

War Is...

War is good, protecting us.
War is bad, people dieing.
War is harmful, sickening people.
War is needed, keeping us safe.
Was is effectual, changing peoples life's.
War is weird, messing with people.
War is vulgarer, making people mad.
War is dumb, making changes in life.
War is heartbreaking, making people hate each other.
War is long, taking a long time
